Exploring your family’s relationship with festivals

Festivals are a big part of Waldorf school life, particularly in our work with young children. Teachers and parents invest hours of love and labour to create these magical experiences that connect us with the seasons and strengthen our community life. Seasonal traditions and celebrations may seem like they come from a bygone era, but engaging with these concepts in our families today brings very modern questions. Why is it important to celebrate with our children? What are the deeper meanings of festivals? How do we engage in authentic ways and honour different perspectives and traditions without diluting their meaning?
In my talk on Tuesday, October 29, we will work with story and biography to explore our personal connections with festivals and the seasons, learn more about why Waldorf educators consider festivals not just nice but necessary, and forge our own nourishing connections to traditions for the future.
