ECE program offerings for September 2020
New program options will be rolled out next year for preschool-aged children with more full day spaces and longer hours for the short day program.
Our morning preschool program will be extended from three hours to 4.25 hours. The longer hours will give teachers more ease in their daily rhythm to allow children extra time for creative play and program activities such as bread making and painting, and transitions will be less rushed.
The schedule will also harmonize the pick up times for families with children in preschool and short day kindergarten. Parents have noted that the three-hour program does not leave a lot of time between drop off and pick up, and the expanded hours will serve these families better. The increased cost of the program will be offset by the provincial Childcare Fee Reduction initiative, which is eligible to programs over four hours long. These savings will be confirmed and passed on to families once our funding for this program has been secured.
Ms. Astrid will be back from Austria in September and will be teaching short days Thursday and Friday from 8:30-12:45 in the Sunflower classroom in Valleycliffe. Ms. Sibylle will offer a 3 full-day program Monday – Wednesday and Ms. Koeun will continue to offer full-day preschool for children Monday/Tuesday and Wednesday/Thursday. All full-day programs will have six full-day and two short day spaces available.
We have been grateful to run our Rainbow Preschool for the past six years at the Perdue home in Garibaldi Estates. After June, the Perdues will enjoy more space in their home for their growing children.
I will be outside at this Friday’s Coffee Talk to answer any questions about our early childhood programs. You can also speak to your child’s teacher about which program will be the best fit for your child and family’s needs.
