Dear families,
This will be my last official communication as principal of Squamish Waldorf School. Last days of school are always emotional for me and this one feels especially so. I am in awe of the task we undertake together to guide and nurture children as a community, and of the amazing individuals that these children are. Ends of year punctuate the awe that we feel and bring into focus how precious our community connections are, even and especially when we have to work hard at maintaining them.

Waldorf has been a big part of my family’s life since my daughter Mira entered preschool over thirteen years ago. Participating from the perspectives of a parent, music teacher, administrator and principal has only deepened my sense of Waldorf’s importance as a movement, the evidence for which is abundant in our students and alumni. When I see these individuals discover their strengths and engage in the world’s questions with integrity and without losing hope, it sustains me. When I hear them question me and challenge my practices, I am encouraged to reflect and strive. When they let me into their lives to share their struggles, joys and doubts, I feel the continuity of generations and life on this planet.

Waldorf works best when we work it as a community, and I want to thank you all for your support and kindness over the years. The festivals and gatherings in which you all participated form some of my fondest memories. I will miss you dearly and profoundly.

Love,
Gabriel
