The holiday season means many things to many people. For one Grade 5 student at Squamish Waldorf School, the meaning of Christmas envisions a better world for people, animals and the environment. Ella Henriques composed a poem based on “The Twelve Days of Christmas” that won her a helicopter trip with Santa in the annual “What Christmas Means to Me” contest hosted by Blackcomb Helicopters and Double Shutter Images.
“I’ll never look at the mountains the same way again,” said Ella after the flight. “It was one of the best moments of my life!”
Selected from among 130 entries, Ella’s heartfelt expression is truly an accomplishment of composition, penmanship and illustration.
Congratulations, Ella. We are very proud of you!
Here is an excerpt of Ella’s poem:
On the twelfth day of Christmas, Santa gave to me
World peace a-coming
No people griping
No animals weeping
All races dancing
No oil spilling
Forest fires a-dimming
Dogs and cats a-playing
No bad things
A sky of healthy birds
All lakes cleansed
A kind world to love
And all the plastic removed from the sea
